Teach Your Baby Spanish ages 0-2

Teach Your Baby Spanish ages 0-2 - Begin by immersing your child in the language early. Find a bilingual babysitter, ask your bilingual partner to speak the language more often or find bilingual music and television programs to play regularly. Enroll in Spanish classes yourself to learn basic words and phrases.

Teach your child one word at a time and refer to objects in both English and Spanish. When pointing out a red crayon, call the crayon both "red" and "rojo." Your child will learn that each word means the same thing.

Enable your child to hear the language fluently as much as possible. Children like imitating the sounds they hear. So allowing your child to hear Spanish spoken fluently will encourage him to begin trying out small phrases and help him differentiate from which language the new words entering his vocabulary come from.

Use small phrases repeatedly. Children enjoy and learn from repetition, and the more casually the repetition takes place, the more apt they are to learn it quickly. Your child will enjoy hearing you say "buenos noches" and "good night" to her each night and eventually will begin repeating and understanding the Spanish phrase.

Sing songs and play Spanish games with your child. Children learn better when exposed to a foreign language in a fun way. Singing songs and playing silly games in Spanish will encourage your child to retain more of the language than by simply memorizing nouns and small phrases.

Children as young as 6 months old can begin learning a second language, so teaching your baby Spanish should begin as early as possible. In the first few years of life, your child's language development will grow immensely, and by the time your child is 1 year old she can begin to tell the difference between the sounds of his first and second languages. The values of learning a second language are being studied, and new research shows that bilingual people tend to be more creative thinkers than their single-language speaking counterparts. - by eHow
