Start Your Own Baby Business or Boutique - First, you will need to decide if you want to start a business selling packaged baby items bought at wholesale, or if you would like to make your own. (or you could do both) By make your own, I mean anything from sewing pillowcases, to quilting baby quilts, to making diaper cakes. Either way, consider the things new Moms use the most. While you probably wouldn't want to sell diapers in a boutique, you could sell diaper cakes! While you may not want to sell plain washcloths in a boutique, you could sell unique gifts made from baby washcloths! Also consider the basic layette all new Moms will need if you plan to carry clothing. This includes baby gowns, body suits, receiving blankets, t shirts (undershirts), socks or booties, bibs, etc... these are sure to be great sellers!
You are going to need to get your name out there. Out there could be the internet, or your hometown, whichever you would prefer. Print up some flyers, get some business cards, get the word out! Let all of your friends and family know that you are now the go-to person for baby gifts and supplies! Check out eBay, if there is not too much competition for what you are offering, give it a try! Make yourself stand out from everyone else, even if it is just a small difference, I promise you people will notice! You could make this a home based business selling online, or you could jump in and open a retail outlet/boutique! While the boutique will most likely bring in more money, it will also take more money up front to start. If you are nervous, start with the internet and see what kind of response you get to whatever you decide to sell. Try to set your prices at the price you would like to have them sell for in a store, and see if people are willing to pay this price.
