Make Egg Babies for School

Make Egg Babies for School - Create a crib to protect your egg using a small cardboard or plastic box, no more than a 6-inch square. If you like, decorate the crib, and write the egg baby's name on the front of it.

Insulate the crib with several layers of tissue paper to keep the egg nestled in place. Lay the tissue flat, or crumple it up and place it inside.

Place a few cotton balls in the center of the crib as added cushioning on which your egg baby will rest. The cotton balls can go either on top of the tissue paper or underneath since it is just extra insulation for your baby.

Fill a medium sauce pan or pot with 6 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

Add an egg, and boil for 10 minutes.

Each year thousands of students spend a week caring for an egg in an exercise meant to simulate some of the responsibilities of parenthood. Egg babies emerged as part of an ongoing program to teach responsibility, actions and consequences to teens. Educators stress the emotional, physical and social responsibilities of raising a baby. Students must keep their eggs with them at all times during the exercise, and provide care to their mock children. At the end of the week, students are held accountable for their "child," and their grade is based on how well they cared for their egg. - by eHow
