Keep Babies Away From Cords & Plugs - Purchase and install outlet covers that screw directly into the outlet. These baby-proof covers contain sliding plug openers instead of an exposed outlet. When an adult needs to plug an item into the outlet, she must slide the opener over and hold it to insert the plug. These covers are safer for children than the usual plastic outlet covers because a child cannot pull the cover off. The standard plastic covers can be removed and can pose a choking hazard for the child.
Get down on your hands and knees to a toddler's level. Look for outlets you may have missed throughout your house. Every single room, regardless of whether the child is allowed to be there, should be baby-proofed.

Secure an office or computer room with a doorknob cover. Doorknob covers slip over a round doorknob and must be squeezed tightly to open the door, which is difficult for a child. Door handles that are not round can have a lock installed at the top of the door that secures to the door frame. Post a small sign next to the door or on the door to remind yourself and other family members to always keep the door locked or closed.
Install cord covers over all electrical cords. Cord covers can be purchased at home-improvement stores and resemble a small rectangular box. The cords are inserted into the cover through one end and fed through another end to branch off into the direction they are needed. Never keep an unused electrical cord plugged into the wall.
Set a movable baby gate up around the area you want to keep the child away from. For example, if you are keeping a baby away from the television area because of too many cords and outlets, then wrap the baby gate around the television and correct the child by simply saying "no" in a stern voice when he heads toward the gate.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that electrical burns to the mouth account for half of electrical cord-related injuries to children. Help avoid mouth burns and electrical shock to little bodies by securing your cords and outlets properly. Children are nosy by nature because they like to explore their surroundings, if given the opportunity. Aside from constant supervision, all cords and outlets should be baby-proofed. - by eHow
