Add a Color to Baby Powder

Add a Color to Baby Powder - Purchase baby powder, fine glitter and dry food coloring. Baby powder is available at any drug store, big box retailer or dollar store. Fine glitter is found at hobby supply stores or in the makeup section of drug stores. It is also called body glitter. Compare the cost between body glitter and fine glitter from craft stores. Dry food coloring can be purchased from cake decorating stores or ordered online from baker's supply retailers.

Gather baby powder, glitter and dry food coloring. You will need a small plastic bowl to mix the ingredients together, a plastic spoon and a small container with a lid to seal the mixture once it is completed.

Measure 1 cup of baby powder into the mixing bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of food coloring. Measure and add 1 tablespoon of glitter. Mix thoroughly with the plastic spoon until the glitter and powder color are distributed evenly throughout the powder and the overall color is uniform. If you'd like the color darker, add more food coloring. For more sparkle, add additional glitter.

Store colored baby powder in an airtight container. Before using, give the powder several quick shakes to make sure the ingredients are still mixed together completely. If you use the colored powder as eye shadow, replace every six months just as you would conventional eye shadow or mascara.

Baby powder is one of those products that stands the test of time. Adding a bit of color to baby powder allows you to turn it into a shimmer powder, eyeshadow or even a gift for a mom-to-be. Colored baby powder costs less than $5 to make and has a shelf life that is the same as regular baby powder. - by eHow
