Spot a Fake Baby Phat

Spot a Fake Baby Phat - Check the materials. A genuine leather purse should be soft and pliable. A bag made with cheaper-quality materials will be shinier, have a plastic feel and/or bend in weird places. It may also be misshapen or oddly colored. Baby Phat and other designer bags are individually crafted and should never feel or look cheap.

Check the logo. If the item does not have a logo anywhere, it is probably a counterfeit. Make sure the logo matches the official Baby Phat brand. Pay attention to the font and look for any typos or misspellings (counterfeits are commonly spelled "Baby Fat"). The Baby Phat logo is a Siamese cat --- make sure the cat is facing the right direction and the tail has the correct arc.

Check the tag. The tag should not be cheaply attached but rather embroidered or embossed into the item. The tag should feature the brand's logo, as explained in Step 2. For women's clothing, the Baby Phat tags are usually made of a satin material.

Inspect the details closely. The seams should be flawless, or close to it, and should not have loose threads or irregular stitching. Check the quality of the pockets and lining, as well as the zippers.

Do some research. Purchasing an item from a department store eliminates the chance of the item being a counterfeit. Use discretion when buying items online. Check to see where the item is being shipped from --- counterfeit items are produced in high volume in many Asian countries. Use common sense when on auction sites. If the seller has dozens of the same item for sale or items for ridiculously low prices, they are almost certainly fakes.

Imitation products are a growing market, largely because of the popularity of Internet shopping. Shoppers looking for a good deal on designer brands may find themselves with a cheap replica instead. A quick search on an auction site reveals hundreds of designer purses, sunglasses and clothes for unbelievably low prices --- and if it seems too good to be true, it is. If you know what to look for, you should be able to easily determine the authenticity of your Baby Phat or other designer purchases. - by eHow
