Assess the infant's behavior. Excessive crying or fretfulness, lack of energy, or lack of appetite can indicate stomach problems. Additionally, if the baby frequently pulls his or her legs up to their stomach and cries, it can indicate that the baby is experiencing stomach pain.

Evaluate the baby's level of hydration. If you suspect a stomach virus and the infant has had no wet diapers for more than five hours or cries without producing tears, contact your doctor immediately. Dehydration in babies can be very serious and must be treated properly right away.

While only lab testing by a physician will determine if a baby has an actual stomach virus, there are several ways to tell if a baby is experiencing a stomach problem and needs to be seen by a doctor. Stomach flus are caused by several different types of viruses, and infant stomach flu can be serious if not treated properly, so always consult your physician when you suspect your baby has a stomach virus. - by eHow
