Dress a Baby When You Check Out From a Hospital

Dress a Baby When You Check Out From a Hospital - Diaper your newborn with a fresh diaper, if it's time for a fresh one, before putting your baby's outfit on him. This saves you from having to remove the diaper again after dressing your baby. Although, this may happen anyway as babies are unpredictable.

Slide a onesie or newborn-sized T-shirt onto your baby. Some T-shirt come in a kimono style and snap in front, making it easier than sliding it over your baby's head. If it's very hot out, this may be all you need before leaving the hospital.

Layer your new baby in a pants and shirt set, or a dress, over the onesie if it is cold outside. Gently slide your newborn's arms and legs into the outfit, being mindful of the umbilical cord stump. A lightweight layer, if it's warm, also protects your baby's skin from the sun and looks cute in pictures. It also provides another layer of protection in case of an accident.

Add a snowsuit or a winter coat in very cold winter weather. Undo the coat or snowsuit in the car before putting your baby in the car seat. The extra padding of the coat allows for too much movement between the baby and the straps if there is an accident.

Bringing home your newborn from the hospital is an exciting time for parents. Often, a family has a special outfit planned for a baby for the first day home. This might be a traditional outfit passed down generations, or something as simple as a diaper and T-shirt. Depending on the time of year your baby is born, dressing your baby the day you check out of the hospital may come with some challenges. Knowing how to dress your newborn to come home doesn't have to be stressful. - by eHow
