Dip one corner of a washcloth in the shampoo and water mixture. Squeeze the cloth to remove the excess liquid.

Close one eye and wipe the moist rag across the eyelash area. Wash the top and lower eyelashes with the rag.

Locate a dry corner of the rag, place it under warm running water and gently wipe your eye to rinse off the baby shampoo.

You may have a bacterial infection which has caused your eyelids to become inflamed. Or dandruff of the scalp or acne rosacea may have caused your eyelashes to have dandruff-like scales on them. Either way, the inflammation is called blepharitis. According to the American Optometric Association blepharitis is "not contagious and generally does not cause any permanent damage to eyesight." To gently clean crusty, red or swollen eyelids simply wash your eyelashes with a no-tear baby shampoo. - by eHow
