Place four drops of tea tree oil into an application of regular shampoo. Wash your hair normally with the shampoo. Use the tea tree oil in your shampoo to prevent reinfestation.

Coat dry hair and scalp with petroleum jelly, about 2 oz., to smother the lice and eggs.

Head lice is commonly found in school-aged children who are more prone to sharing items that can lead to the spread of lice. Chemical remedies are available to get rid of the lice. When conventional treatments are ineffective, you can use alternative treatment options instead. Baby oil can be used to help get rid of lice. - by eHow
