Make Sweet Potato Baby Food

Make Sweet Potato Baby Food - Wash the sweet potatoes well, making sure to remove as much dirt as you can. Lay the washed sweet potatoes on a paper towel or hand towel on your kitchen counter.

Poke holes and wrap the sweet potatoes in tin foil if you prefer to bake them. Do not remove the skins. Place them in a 400 degrees F oven for up to an hour, checking on them periodically. When they finish baking, allow them to cool a little then remove the skins. Chop the sweet potatoes for older babies and puree the sweet potato chunks for younger babies.

Peel each sweet potato thoroughly and remove any dark spots in the potato if you plan on boiling or steaming the sweet potatoes. Set the peeled sweet potatoes on your cutting board.

Cut the sweet potato lengthwise into strips then cut the strips into little chunks if you want to boil or steam your sweet potatoes or to make a puree. The size of the chunk depends on the age of your baby and how well he eats solid food.

Place the sweet potato chunks into a food processor for a puree. Add water as necessary until you reach the right consistency. Young babies need a thin puree whereas older babies can tolerate a chunkier puree.

Making your own baby food may provide a healthy option to store-bought baby food. Sweet potatoes are a great first food to introduce to your baby, and you probably have everything you need to prepare them right in your kitchen. - by eHow
