Get Your Baby to Clap His Hands

Sing song about clapping, such as, "If You're Happy and You Know It" or "Open Shut Them." Make the experience fun for the baby so that he wants to repeat it.

Play clapping games like patty-cake. Your baby will surely enjoy the song itself and will eventually want to take part in the clapping motions.

Praise your baby when he finally claps without your help. Make a big deal out of it so that he will continue doing it.

Clapping is a milestone for babies that their parents particularly enjoy. Most babies can clap independently by about 12 months of age, but there are steps that parents can take to speed up the learning process. Infants can quickly learn that clapping is fun through example and praise from Mom and Dad. So give your baby a round of applause the next time she does something good, and you'll be well on your way. - by eHow
