Take a Baby Out in the Rain - Cover his skin. Your baby can get chilly going out in the rain, even in the middle of summer. Add damp weather to chilly breezes and you get wet, uncomfortable skin. Put baby in long pants, socks and long sleeves. If you think he'll get hot in long sleeves, dress him in a short sleeved shirt and a jacket; that way you can take off the jacket when the rain stops. Try to find a waterproof jacket, instead of one made of cotton.
Cover him with something water resistant. If he's in a stroller, put a plastic, rainproof covering on the top. If you need to improvise, try a large plastic bag; just make sure the material is not at all close to baby's skin or in his reach, and that baby has ample room to move freely and breathe. If he's in a car seat, pull the cover all the way up over baby; if it's raining hard you might need a plastic covering in addition to the car seat cover. If you're walking with baby in your arms, cover yourselves with an umbrella. If your baby's jacket has a hood, pull it up. If you don't have anything to cover baby with, shelter him by tucking him inside of your jacket.
Take a Baby Out in the Rain
Bring baby an extra change of clothes. In case he gets soaked or the weather changes, have something your child can change into that's comfortable and weather appropriate. Remember to take his rain clothes out of your bag to hang dry when you get home.
Walk slowly in the rain. Although you may be tempted, running in wet weather with your baby in your arms is dangerous. Don't risk slipping and falling while holding your baby. Step carefully and hold your baby tight.
Be your own authority. People have varying opinions when it comes to the best way to raise children. Some people might tell you its too soon to bring your baby out, especially in inclement weather. Remember that you, and you alone are your baby's mother. Do what feels right and don't worry if others don't agree. After all, your baby grew for nine months in water; what's a little rain?
The saying goes "It takes a village to raise a child." Although it is helpful for a first time mom to have the experience and wisdom of her elders, it can be frustrating to have to consider so many opinions when raising your own child. New moms can easily feel overwhelmed and suffer from a lack of confidence. You don't need permission to take your baby out in the rain; just bundle her up and make sure she's kept warm and dry. If you're lucky the sound of the drops falling will soothe her to sleep. - by eHow
