Wean a Baby Off of Formula

Wean a Baby Off of Formula - Start by mixing 75 percent formula and 25 percent milk. For an 8-ounce bottle that will be 6 ounces of formula and 2 ounces of milk. If baby normally takes formula warmed up, continue to do so.

Bump up the percentage after a week if the baby seems to be handling it well. Try giving the baby a 50-50 mixture of whole milk and formula.
Wean a Baby Off of Formula

Give the baby 75 percent whole milk and 25 percent formula in the third week. You can continue with this ratio until you use up all the formula in your house.

Start giving the baby just whole milk when you are done with all the formula.

Most pediatricians recommend switching a baby from formula to whole milk on or after the first birthday. Babies can resist change, however, so make the switch gradually to make the transition smoother. Wait until after your child's one-year checkup with the pediatrician before switching to whole milk. Sometimes the doctor will decide that a baby is not yet ready to switch to milk for one reason or another. Discussing it with your doctor will make you feel confident that your baby is ready. - by eHow
