Unspoil a Baby

Unspoil a Baby - Check your baby to see if she needs changing, feeding or is in any pain, such as with a fever. If these are the reasons your baby is crying, address them accordingly.

Keep your baby on a steady feeding, changing and sleeping routine; this can help prevent fits she might throw when hungry, wet or tired. Waiting for your little one to whine when she needs something will only promote the idea that whining is always the way to get something.

Remain calm when your baby begins to cry for no reason and wants just to be held. Getting upset will only cause her to get more upset. Take deep breaths or, if need be, place her in a safe area and exit the room for a minute.

Do not pick your baby up if you know she is only crying to be held. If she doesn't need food, changing or to lay down, chances are that she is crying for attention. Calmly speak to her and say "no" in a low but firm voice. If she begins to slap or bite, place her in a crib or pen and walk away until she begins to calm.

Though babies are cuddly and cute, they still have their bad days. Spoiled babies often want to be held on a constant basis and will scream if they aren't attended to right away. Some babies may even resort to light slaps or biting to get their way. If your little one exhibits these behaviors, use a few steps to un-spoil your baby and teach her to be more independent. - by eHow
